Who is involved?
Waste minimisation is part of the 'lean construction' ethos. This means that waste minimisation must be considered at the design, contractual and construction phases. This involves the clients, partners, designers, architects and contractors:
Client: Lay down environmental criteria or insisting in planning documents that waste minimisation is achieved.
Designers: Can reduce source wastage by specifying the correct resources and can influence use and specification of a particular type of material to minimise waste.
Suppliers: Can be encouraged to use less packaging and supply materials in the exact quantities required.
Contractors: Minimise waste of materials on-site, use reclaimed/recycled materials and reduce poor handling procedures.
